Petition to Repeal Permit to Purchase in Michigan

To: My State Representative and State Senator

WHEREAS: Studies show that high rates of civilian gun ownership result in less overall violent crime; and

WHEREAS: Draconian restrictions on purchasing a firearm, such as the permit to purchase system, only create roadblocks for law-abiding citizens that criminals will continue to ignore; and

WHEREAS: The permit to purchase system also implements de facto gun registration scheme by keeping a record of all pistol purchases, endangering citizens’ rights and privacy;

THEREFORE: I urge you do everything in your power to repeal Michigan’s draconian universal permit to purchase and de facto pistol registration scheme. Great Lakes Gun Rights will keep me informed of your actions and vote.

It’s outrageous that law-abiding citizens must obtain a government permission slip to purchase a firearm in Michigan and that the state keeps a record of EVERY pistol transaction, making it a de facto registry.

Michigan is one of the only states with a draconian purchase permit scheme in the nation.

It is clearly unconstitutional, but we can’t wait for the courts to strike it down.

The time to start working to FULLY repeal Michigan’s permit to purchase scheme is now, so please sign your petition today!
